Who is chris_selina on ebay and how can they offer 20 full sets of the 2016 Anzac To Afghanistan Coin Collection

Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 7.07.07 amOn ebay just now, chris_selina has sold 15 of the 20 sets available of the 2016 Anzac To Afghanistan Coin Collection, a collection not yet released.

How can this be? The full set is not out yet.

Screen Shot 2016-04-11 at 7.12.56 amAlso on ebay this morning, smartdog_au has sold 7 of the 10 full sets they have available of the 2016 Anzac To Afghanistan Coin Collection.

The set of coins will be released over time and even then only with the purchase of a newspaper. Only someone with easy access to full sets would be able to make offers like these on ebay for the volume on offer.

If acquired without the associated newspaper purchase, the margin is excellent.

These offers being out now on ebay makes a mockery of the process we are engaged in with News Corp. The offers devalue the promotion. They also show there is leakage in the process.

The photos online for chris_selina suggest the seller is a newsagent.

UPDATE: 11/4/2016 @ 7:08PM. I did a Google search just now and here is what comes up – see the ads to the right – more sellers.

Full collections are also available on Gumtree.

I think you will find News are on to this. They breached a newsagent for doing this with Dr Seuss.

Doubt they will be able to do too much or they won’t have anyone left to sell their papers at the rate the sets are appearing on Ebay !

Just had a look now and there are at least 6 full sets offered for sale at the time I’m typing this all from different sellers. There are also alot of individual coins up for sale.

If supply wasn’t a problem this wouldn’t be happening.

We have sold out this morning and so have all our sub agents.

Country area, lots of upset customers.

    Dean,
I can assure News are on to it and they are not happy. If there is a Newsagent involved they should have the News contract torn up.
There are also adds appearing on Gumtree.

Is it 7 day home delivery customers? They get the full set direct from News.

David, that was my thought initially but how do they have 20 sets?

Will be interesting how they will honour these sales if they are newsagents and News cuts their 2nd delivery of medals (9 to 14).

The Kilburn SA newsagent selling on both ebay and gumtree has had his coin stock removed and was told he is excluded from future promotions. Apparently he not happy having already sold 4 complete sets he now cannot deliver. Rep couldn’t comment on other states.

peace_072 also has 10 for sale and again Revesby …isn’t that where chris_selina hail from ?

Lol…why would he see being removed from future promotions as any sort of punishment ? So long as papers are being sold News won’t care and won’t take any further action particularly if it threatened the number of papers they are selling.

While I am pleased The Advertiser has removed the coins, I do wonder what the legality of that is.

I am a sub-agent for papers and have no written contract with either my dist agent or the Advertiser, so I would not be in breach of a legally binding agreement had I been so greedy.

If any supplier entered my business and attempted to remove stock they would find a very angry me refusing to allow them to do so.

David, you will have received today official announcement of remedy taken against offending newsagent .

Yes, Colin, I have that “Stop Press” from Leanne Jones, but I am simply curious about the legality of the move. Not the morality, as I agree with the action by The Advertiser, but am concerned with the legality of what they did.

I am also waiting to see if there will be any sanction from Newspower over this.

I am told this post and the associated comments have resulted in considerable activity in News Corp. offices around the country.

Eric, so have all the other businesses doing the right thing by the publisher and the customer.
Taking advantage of any situation is just not on.
Some action must be taken, and possibly some form of ‘punishment’ must be handed out I think.
Too many good businesses are being badly done by by these greedy renegades.

What about at the “end” of the promotion? What should we do with the left over stock?

Sick of these promotions, never getting enough stock and subsequently getting abused.

This has been going on for years and its not just Newsagents that do it, I know Woolworths staff have done it previously.

At the end of the day there is no margin in these promotions, nor is there a positive impact on store sales after the promotion.

Come on Amanda the 20cents we make is fantastic .

Have to agree I would like to see proof that these promos work and actually generate sales after the promo is finished , surely they have this data tucked away somewhere

    Allan you are a hilarious!

Actually there seem to be lots of different standards floating around regarding these promotions. Customers have come in saying that some newsagents won’t supply them the coins because they are home delivery or have purchased the paper elsewhere and will only supply if the paper is purchased there.

Paul the best approach for News, and I have put this to them many times, is to use the newsagency software facilities to manage the rules. This will drive consistency and provide transparency on all transactions as well as provide a data set to be used to thoroughly analyse engagement.

I doubt that News are concerned about their retailers or their customers either. They commit to a promotion at modest levels and then send it out and collect the profit. They are not worried about unmet demand.
