Interesting post. I was visiting an old friend and his newsagency a few days back. What you say in your post is correct His card selections are better, the public are well served at his local newsagency.

But here’s the rub. The newsagency in question is 10km away and to get there I drove through many suburbs, none of which have a local newsagency.

I’m talking of Adelaide where the number of functioning newsagencies has radically reduced over the last few years. Most malls and centres no longer have one.

So who is the post aimed at ?

It makes me happy seeing you promote shops like mine for mother’s day. Thank you for doing this. We can be forgotten in our little newsagent shops often.

    Colin,

This post is another in a series I have written for folks searching on Google. I’ve not written it for newsagents or other retailers. My hope is that at least some people searching for Mother’s Day cards consider newsagents as a result.

In terms of newsagency closures, yes, they continue, especially in higher rent locations like shopping malls. On the high street, though, I am seeing some new ones open.

Our channel has a bright future for retailers not bound by the traditions of the channel.
