The Herald Sun today shows, again, it’s part of the problem

It’s embarrassing having the Herald Sun on display today. I think the front page ‘story’ about masks is lobbying, not journalism. The ‘story’ references NSW where the politicians decided masks were no longer required while, at the same time, their Chief Health Officer said masks should be worn.

Politicians, and media proprietor lobbyists can play their games, the science remains that transmission is greatly reduced where masks are worn.

Of course, news outlets have trotted out the usual ‘representatives’ of business complaining about masks. Those same media outlets should give more time to the scientific and medical experts.

As of Wednesday last it is no longer compulsory for Newsagencies to comply with wearing masks, or having to insist on customers to sign in or wear masks or their staff or customers to be Double Vaxxed nor show that they are.
Newsagencies and their customer have in NSW been granted this freedom under the Essential or now Critical Retail classification.

Yes, I noted that the NSW politicians had gone against the health advice they had received. Let’s see how that plays out.

I accept this howvere the “play” about NSW V -VICTORIA isn’t the point. That’s as you say is Politics.
The point the real point is VIC has the World record of Lockdown and the biggest record of deaths per population,
Given this isn’t the real responsibility up to the individual-Stuff Governments and State comparisons it’s about individual responsiblity. I am fully vaxxed and taking my 3rd next month.
i will be cautious because I really like life and don’t rely on bravodo or ignorance to pull through this pandemic even though it may well be the “spanish flu” of yesterday
Virtually I am minimizing my risk so those that want risk ralise that they are the vulberable-NOT me.
newspaper comment is irrelevant as it can choose to in this case present an argument of difference therefore gaining the undisevered attention you are pointing out here.
So getting to the point again point scoring is political individual protection is survival-our choice.

Mark, it’s up to the individual to protect themselves The information is all out there.
This is the real point We had freedom day Yesterday and today and yet MOST wore masks.-respectively as it should be.
The Govts may be thinking liberalism is reading the game it’s really the individual that’s executing the process.

My post is about the appalling political narrative pushed by News Corp on the front page of what used to be a newspaper. It’s about the publisher choosing to make it about NSW vs. Victoria. It’s this approach by the Herald Sun that has nurtured dangerous fringe groups.

Now, on NSW and masks: Governments are responsible for caring for the people who elect them. Governments have access to the medical advice, such as the need to wear masks. Individuals do not have easy access to the same professional advice.

Sure, it’s about personal accountability. But … when enough dolts don’t wear masks and a visor spreads, that increases the risks of mutations and as we are seeing, mutations can severely impact populations.

The NSW government should follow the advice of their CHO. Instead, they are heading in the other direction.

personally i think everything should just open up and get on with life. There is no way it will be stopped so stop trying. There will be many more variants in the future. Its still less deadly than the flu. So stop stressing and get on with life. The amount of businesses that have been ruined is depressing. All could of been avoided if we stayed open.

Murray, your claim re the flu is not supported by the evidence. It’s an example of misinformation that puts plenty at risk.

There is no evidence on businesses ‘ruined’. In our channel, for example, double digit growth through Covid is common. The same is true in pet store retail, garden centres, produce businesses, builders, trades and many more.

While Covid has been challenging for entertainment, hospitality and education, science-led health mandates have saved lives.

There are plenty in the UK today saying it was a mistake there to, months ago, fully open up. I have family in the UK and they are terrified.

My post is about the herald Sun once again lobbying, to drive p8ublic opinion. This is not the role of a newspaper. Unfortunately, too many fall for the News Corp yelling spell.

The science, supporting advice from the health professionals, and restated by UK CHO and WHO in the last 24 hours is a combination of: masks, distancing, less movement and vaccination / boosting. Explicitly, the experts have said vaccination alone is not enough.

The so called experts are changing what they believe is best as much as i change my jocks .To keep up with what they say is best today will drive you crazy because tomorrow it will change .Have a good look at the WHO in this pandemic and maybe be not so quick to quote them I’m sure their handling of this makes one question almost everything they say well certainly in the beginning

Paul your jocks must be old and crusty. The medical experts appointed by governments are not changing their views that often. The advice on masks, distancing, mixing, hand sanitising has not changes in a year and a half. What has changed is words from the politicians. The World Health Organisation has been consistent.

Paul, you have to remember, like any virus, it changes, and sometimes the advice has to change as a result.

The issue is News Corp’s political interference through platforms that used to be newspapers.

News updates are continuous throught the day to subcribers to News Corp and Nine in NSW as in other States.
News Print is often outdated even before it goes to print. Hence the articles are opinionated rather than News Breaking.
This will continue to be until the “Days of Our Lives” sagas fade away.
Even the sporting pages are more gossip than event reporting.
News papers are now Journals on a daily basis.

News Corp. could choose to stop interfering in politics. But, I suspect, it won’t.

Time for all of us to move on -there is another life and newsagencies are recording greatest sales for years so the buyers don’t care about Rupert or Nine
It’s another thing though they do care about the Lotto.
    Different story.

How the Tele and the Herald Sun have played people re the virus is shameful. I look at the front pages some days and think to myself that they must think people are fools for believing their trash.

All that matters is the science and that it is the basis on which decisions are made. But I worry that train has left the station.
