People spending $20 or more at an IGA supermarket are offered a free newspaper.
I noticed it at an IGA in suburban Melbourne today, a store that is less than 10 metres from a newsagency.
A staffer at the IGA said most don’t want the free paper and that they have been told to throw left over papers in the trash.
…it all adds to circulation figures doesn’t it……….
…it all adds up to a commercial ‘con’……….

I think it spells out a very different message. A message of no matter what we have to try and increase our “print media ” circulation or?
This is survival mode, nothing to do with newsagents, literally for we are arleady designated.

Yes, nothing to do with newsagents but everything to do with newsagents. Every business for itself. The publisher grabbing eyeballs where they can. newsagents need to consider if this strategy works for them.

This has been tried in the past where I am and as far as the Local IGA is concerned it just provides them lots of extra topping work for no long term gain and I agree with that as I process their returns.

Peter, every now and then a “new” spark in circulation comes up with this move Once upon a time it was Cafes and Fitness avenues it all comes back to desparate is what desparate does. and I am not saying it does not harm us short term but I am saying it isn’t a fix its just making sure they are trying everying before expiry ot total transition.
Newsagents here are saying we should use the traffic flow and fulfll our potential to survive. This is what News is doing.
