There is a move in some US states to increase the minimum wage from $7-9 per hour to $15 per hour. This has resulted in many businesses especially hospitality either closing, cutting hours, or automating. The employees who the minimum wage increase was designed to help are in many cases worse off. The other trend it has started is for some restaurants and bars to embrace the $15 per hour wage, maybe even increasing it to $17, but the staff no longer get tips.
