The Collective magazine to close print edition

The print edition of The Collective is to close.

Since its launch, this magazine has been consistently oversupplied in businesses for which I have seen data. Small business newsagents have been a bank, providing funding to prop-up the title.

The publisher asked to meet with me prior to launch, to discuss ideas for engaging respectfully with newsagents. While they listened with courtesy, they did none of what I suggested. In my opinion, we were used from the start.

It always felt incongruous as a magazine that at its core was about disruptive businesses. I believe the whole point of Collective/Collective Hub was to raise the personal profile of Lisa Messenger and her other businesses and as such the viability/profitability of the magazine was secondary.

It was for all intents and purposes a vanity project using newsagent to display a title that was never profitable for anyone. Good to be shot of it.

Donna Hay also announced she will cease Donna Hay Magazine. Planning to continue in print but a different title delivered directly by subscription.
