Thank you for visiting today.
Hearing this from a staff member in a retail store as I was leaving made me feel good. It was delivered in a genuine way.
People can shop anywhere. The more welcome they feel they more likely they will spend and return another time.
Did you buy or were you leaving empty handed? For a browser leaving, I think that may be a good way to say farewell.
However, if it was a paying customer, I think they are the wrong words.
Sometimes I say a simple thank you, possibly followed by a see you again, or enjoy the day.
For the customer who comes in with a loaded supermarket trolley and buys a daily paper or a magazine, I will usually say something like Thanks for supporting us, or thanks for the business.
And for those with a loaded trolley who come in and ask if I have “The Paper” then say “They didn’t have any next door”, feel bloody luck I grunted something. 🙂
