9 News ran a story two days ago on Lottoland in which Luke Brill, Lottoland CEO, made some comments newsagents may find interesting:
“What Tatts wants to do is to protect the online space. They don’t care about the newsagents really, so when this obviously natural transition happens, it’s got nothing to do with Lottoland – it’s to do with the internet,” said Brill.
“People’s behaviour is changing. You don’t go to the video store anymore; you go to Netflix.
“Unfortunately, the reality is that for the next generation of people coming through, it’s unlikely they will go to newsagents to buy a lottery ticket.”
Not that interesting. Weve heard it all before from Brill and yourself.

Yes but isn’t it ironic that newsagents supposed “Enemy” in Lottoland is actually speaking the truth whereas we have heard nothing from Tatts except cult mentality thinking – Kill Lottoland – But we are better then them follow us.

I agree Michael.
I have written here and spoken publicly about online being the biggest challenge to over the counter sales and that this challenge alone is reason enough to push back on the Tatts refit and digital marketing demands.
There is no upside in over the counter lottery sales.

No upside in over the counter sales?
Sales are up 8% this year and can you buy scratchies online?
Not interesting he is just upset.

Joe, In my opinion, scratchie sales will decline and lottery companies will pursue non OTC vending options plus digital versions. For lottery sales, I think the migration to App and online will continue. Purchase is easier and more certain. I hope I am not right.

Yes Michael,
i fully agree
could not understand why ALNA cum ANF jumped into bed with TATTS to ban Lottoland.
we get nothing from TATTS on online sales, yet we supported TATTS in stopping Lottoland.
Only makes sense to ALNA and TATTS but not to me

John the alternative was they did nothing. I think their fight was worthwhile. I know they have not ignored Tatts either.

Some have some have not increased their over the counter sales. Tatts knows that our average sales is always higher than on line sales. We talk to and answer customers questions we payout on the spot of their winnings we can upsell and make customers feel that we helped with their needs. There are some disadvantages to the customers that over the counter sales do not have. As far as Lottoland and Brill is concerned they are worried about the drop in turnover and revenue and their jobs. If Lottoland is curbed and made to pay taxes like Tatts they will not survive. This will make others make think twice before they start anotheron line betting agency.
