The NT Government, through its gaming commission, has allowed Collingwood Football Club to establish a weekly lottery. The Magpie Millions game looks and feels like a regular lottery numbers game:

While done in the guise of charity fundraising and using Collingwood guernsey numbers, it really is a numbers game with the numbers drawn as you would see in a Lotto game. The vast majority of the funds go in prizes. Reading through the website there is little detail on what the charities will receive.
This move by Collingwood is another example of the break up of the Tatts lottery ticket monopoly in Australia. More will come I suspect.
No doubt there will be more games along these lines as authorised by the NT State Government (if it can be called a Government).
The NT Government will authorise gambling over the Phone or Net in Australia for a price. Don’t stand between a Politician and a revenue source. If they undercut other operators and state governments then that is the Free Market at work.
This will lead to a race to the Bottom by our State Governments for what is now a “Nice Little Earner” for Tax and will become a case where gambling will increase but dollars which flows as Tax and other Charges will become an ever shrinking dollar amount.
What I find interesting is I can from here in NSW carry put a transaction with Lottoland yet for taxation and other regularity purposes it takes place in the NT.
Mark, why don’t you start a New Product which I will for want of better call “Cloud MacTower” (Son of the Tower Cloud of BU fame) and anchored only to this world by stream of electrons and some form of com like radio waves. I will conduct all my business there, where governments will not be able to or go as, I believe it is none of their business and they do not know its location or address, nor will I tell them.
