The current issue of Australian healthy Food with the free Gingerbread folk to eat is a magazine to pitch at the counter as an impulse purchase. It is unique and will draw attention to a title shoppers may otherwise miss. We are using it to promote on social media too as the free gift is different enough from the usual.
I can’t work out how these promotions are allocated, sometimes I get them and others don’t other times other get them and I don’t. It must make marketing hard for the publishers, you can hardly pitch a freeby if only some of your magazines have it.
Needless to say there’s no gingerbread people attached to my Healthy Food Guides.

Agree with Steve. Magazine promotion is so haphazard.
I gather Target is selling Pokemon cards at discount. Even if I wanted to match their price…… Could I get the stock?

Magazine publishers have what they think is a process. I think this is where groups can play a role.
On competing with Target, I’d never try and do this. Majors run promotions for short times. Suck it up while they do and focus on the whole year opportunity, which they usually do not.
Getting Pokemon card stock is okay with the right supplier relationships.

Colin, I source Pokemon from Banter Toys firm sale 40% and SCA Vending, consignment stock at 25%.
Be careful, another of my suppliers offered very cheap Pokemon cards. They are a Chinese knock off.

The profit on this magazine is $1.41. That is not good enough for a counter line at this time of the year, or any time for that matter.
Would rather sell $10, $20 plus counter lines with a full margin.
