Further to my post about the botched promotion from News Corp’s Adelaide Advertiser, click here to see how the folks at the Herald and Weekly Times have communicated with newsagents about their Australia Day promotion. It is clear and to the point. This is typical for Victorian run promotions.
While newspaper promotions are important, they need to be relevant, easy to execute and easily understood by all involved.
Seems the good folks at the Herald Sun are keener to engage with newsagents than the ffolks at the Advertiser. The same promo is being run in SA, but only available through a handful of IGA outlets, once again showing where the Advertiser thinks its future lies.

Obviously Victoria has someone on the ball running their promotions(this one anyway) and it is better thought out than any by management in SA.
The Dr Seuss promotion over the Valentines weekend again adds work to an already busy week for no extra return for us.
I say no extra return because IF the promotion was held 2 weeks later WE would make the same return or more and not have to deal with the extra load on top of a busy period, and Newscorp would sell more papers and books when the consumer is not distracted in considering what to purchase to appease their partner.
After the failed promotions of last year, the red face paint when Adelaide united played a soccer international(a dud promotion, and what is soccer anyway?) and the cheap Christmas bag of rubbish, Newscorp SA in their own mind think they have to attach everything to a season to have any reward.
This Dr Seuss promotion would be a great promotion to stand alone and I’m sure it would benefit everyone.
It is great to see the Victorian promotion is a newsagent only promotion too.

Well said, Peter B, well said. Shame you have to hide your identity, but I have just been told the Advertiser no longer wants to place their promos in my shop as they don’t like the comments I make here. I believe in being honest and owning my comments.
They will lie, they will obfuscate, they will demand special treatment but they cannot stand any criticism or deviation from the corporate line.

David it is disappointing that Newscorp in SA bully and threaten newsagents who have an opinion that doesn’t conform to their wishes. Our relationship with them is permanently strained because we let them know if we feel a promo is going to be a waste of our time and money.
Ironically Newscorps Victorian Australia day promo is newsagents only, I thought it was strange that we didn’t have the promo here, but here in SA I just saw an advertisement on Adelaide Now saying it is exclusive to IGA.
What a joke Newscorp in SA are to newsagents, and they tell us we don’t respect their brand, the hand that has fed them for a hundred years, well your brand Newscorp should be Kleenex.
