Here is a reminder why newsagents need to be careful about capital investment in lottery products. OzLotteries promotes hard, especially large jackpots. Buying form them is fast, easy and queue-less.
My comment is, who owns “OzLotteries”.
While this company is online they do not have the expense that a newsagent does who is selling Tatts product over the counter. I wonder how many newsagents have to roster on extra staff to cover the $70 Million Powerball draw. The increase in sales will no doubt generate extra commission that the retailer needs for the extra cost in wages and then don’t forget those “extra” fees that have to be paid to Tatts. At the end of the day “OzLotteries” will be making way more money than any Tatts retailer in Australia.

I bought and paid for a ticket via my credit card. having registered with them I was required to provide my name, address, phone number and email address. And credit card details.
Having won a small prize, I rang to ask how to claim it. I couldn’t use my Tatts card at my local agency.
Oz Lotteries told me I had to open an account with them to claim my prize. I was required to provide ID and they suggested I email a copy of my Drivers Licence to them.
Now, I don’t know about other people, but this seemed to me to be excessive in the amount of information and all of it required online and I felt this was too intrusive. Adding the ID required for me to claim my prize they would have:
am reluctant to send ID, open an account and then presumably supply you with my bank account details so you can deposit my winnings. If you add all of this up, you will have:
My name
My phone number
My email address and from that you can work out my employer
My home address
My age
My date of birth
My drivers license number
My personal bank account details
My credit card details
Who I bank with
Although they had no problems with withdrawing money from my credit card, they refused to deposit my winnings into that account. They cited the following rule from their fine-print:
“11.8. We further reserve the right to withhold payments of any nature and to void all winnings of a Member is unable to verify their identity by meeting our identification verification requirements to our full satisfaction.”
Maybe they’re legit, but their business practices are dodgy. I’d steer clear in this time of data mining and profile theft and use your agent down the street.
