How has the $30M Lotto jackpot gone?

A newsagent colleague called and asked me to open a post here this afternoon inviting comments from newsagents with lotto on the success or otherwise of the $30M jackpot for tonight’s draw.

Totally gone, we suggested to our rep having less Saturday night draws and making them much bigger with a longer pre sale period.$100 or $150 Million New Years draw on sale for the 6 months prior might be better?

We have been busy but we had a cruise ship in too. Nothing like the days when we had queues to back of shop. I wonder how those queues will be on Thursday. Spent so much time explaining Lotto to overseas visitors that our tiny little bit of commission was blown away. Also got accused of ripping them off just because they were on the cruise ship when we charged freight on the papers. However the good and fun ones mad up for the moaners.

Thursday was the largest single day I’ve had since I purchased the business 3 years ago and today was close. All up a new record this week, smashed our previous by at least 20% and there’s still tomorrow.
That said we have some tourists around that are looser with their $ at the moment. Traditionally big jackpots have overshadowed Megadraws.

it is not like used to . I think overshadow by powerball jackpot and customers now expecting serious Jackpot $50 million or more.

Great for us as we are a holiday destination and it feels like the rest of the country is in town. Queues were down to the back of the shop Thurs and yesterday and I expect more of the same this week. Love Superdraws as they always have have several winners which sits better in the customer’s mind than the lot going to one or two winners like PB or Oz.

One question from interstate customers never ceases to amaze me. Customer: If I win the $70m do I have to come back to NSW to claim the prize? (This is usually asked with a slight look of annoyance!)

Me: With all due respect if I won $70m I would walk wherever I had to barefoot and charter a Chopper back!

    Fair dinkum!!

On the other hand . What a shocker of a day today (Sunday). We ended up with a minus figure of $100.

Saturday was OK but not because of lotto which was up but not like it used to be. Thursday this week might be a diffeent proposition however,

Whether it’s because of the numbers now doing lotto online ,which Tatts costantly says isn’t significant, but which I’m seeing more and more off with customers asking can they claim their online wins from me, I’m not sure.

about online sales as compared over the counter have a look at Tatts annual report over several years , which breaks down the source of sales , i think from memory up about 12% of lottery sales and unfortunately for us growing.
Same story for the local T.A.B’s.
