This is an easy move every newsagent can make and from which every newsagent will benefit.
Whether your newspapers are stacked flat, in a stand or on a shelf like we have, make room for one stack or pocket of Better Homes and Gardens and your sales of the magazine will increase.
If you are worried about having this space allocated all the time, do it at least Thursday through Sunday. Your sales will increase.
This is not new advice from me, I have written about it here many times over the many years I have been blogging.
What frustrates me is the newsagents who have read the advice and not acted on it. It will take a couple of minutes and the return over the year will be well worth it – probably the best return from a magazine move you could get.
If your attitude is why should I do this when I only make 25%, I’d say consider stop being a newsagent. This move only has upside for you.
I must be the black sheep here, we have a magazine display above newspapers, 3 pockets across by 5 down and I am lucky to sell 1 copy a week from it.
Often do just BHG to give more impact but the only magazine that does move from this spot is Highlife.
Maybe my newspaper customers come in with their heads down.

Maybe the newspaper customers do not look up from the paper. Try BHG or another magazine next to your top selling paper.

We have tried BHG many times next to the papers as well as other mags and have sold zero. Our customers have a focus on the paper and then out. Papers may create traffic, but its only for papers here.
Sorry we did have success with the TV series mag Australia but would have sold out anyway.

Forgot to mention our sales of BHG has plummeted recently. Are others finding the same?

Same I have the BHG mags all around the newspapers always on the weekend and zero sales increase . BHG tend to sell better towards the end of the onsale period when all the info has been on tv

I guess that’s why other agents haven’t followed your advice. It doesn’t work. Magazine sales are heading south.

Plenty have Andrew and sales are up. As I mentioned in the latest and other recent benchmark studies, the gap between those growing their businesses and those declining is widening.
