Barbara. a little less paranoia and a lot more empathy for shooting victims would be nice.
Mark is simply pointing out the lack of connection between the story and the ad. On an AMERICAN newspaper carrying an AMERICAN add.
While the USA spreads its “war on terror” across the globe, it sits firmly on its hands with home grown terrorism in case any action upsets the nutjob gun fetishists.

Barbara as David points out, this is a US paper. The placement of the ad reflects what we see here: disrespect for the masthead and no consideration of the ad as it may relate to the news of the day.
I have been writing about these stuck on ads for years as I consider them an affront to journalism.
By the way, there is an extraordinary difference in the gun laws of Australia and the US. This is reflected in the death by shooting numbers in each country as a percentage of population.
