Important fraud warning from Touch Networks

Touch issued this warning to merchants late today:

Fraudulent Paysafe calls
If you receive a call from anyone requesting you to perform a ‘test’ transaction or asking you to print a live voucher and then asking for the unique serial number or PIN please do not do this as it is a hoax.

More importantly you are issuing information that will cost you money!

Any information given to anyone that calls where you or your staff give them the PIN information means you are responsible for the activation of that PIN.

Call the Touch Service Desk
If you have received a call asking you to perfrom any of the above mentioned activities we ask that you call the Touch Service Desk to report this information on 1800 286 824.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please call Touch Service Desk on 1800 286 824.

Don’t be caught out by scams
Remember to treat Paysafe vouchers just as if they were cash. Never issue a Paysafe voucher or give out a Paysafe code over the telephone. Only ever issue the product once you have received payment for it. Paysafe and Touch will never ask you to print a test Paysafe voucher.

Mark Im not sure where to enter this post and so I thought here is as appropriate as any.

It is apparent that from Jul1 2015, Australia Post is no longer processing payments for City Link Toll Accounts or Daily Passes. Hence in the last week or so, our Newsagency has seen quite a bit of traffic from people seeking to make Toll payments up to transport business owners want to make payments in excess of $1000.00.

I must admit I havent paid a lot of attention to the commission rates on Tolling sales through Touch since we did so few. But now that I transacting thousands of dollar per week, I thought I d better check.

To my shock, the answer is $0.55 (less than a ticketek fee as I understand it) per transaction, regardless of size. So in my first half weekly statement, Ive done 9 transactions for collections of $1225 and my commission for the 4 days is $4.95 (inc of GST). Now I understand why Post gave it the flick.

I suspect the dollars transacted will be huge but right now Im inclined to put it in the MYKI, no we dont do it basket. Thats ridiculous by any standard. If a customer pays by Credit Card, its potentially a losing transaction.

    Im wondering 2 things.

    1. If I have access to Touch Services, am I obliged to service all Touch product customers.
    2. If Post is telling all the City Link customers to go and pay it at the newsagency, then is VANA as the industry representative currently talking to Touch or City Link to renegotiate the terms.

The traffic by the way is small in volume, high in dollars transacted, and in a bill paying hurry. I frankly dont want this traffic.

Shouldn’t you be seeking advice from VANA rather than this site?

Yes I will be doing so, but I wasnt aware that you were the moderator of what should or shouldnt be posted here.

I must be the only agent in Victoria not aware of this. Perhaps everyone else is in the loop and Im now servicing all City Link customers across Victoria at 55 cents a pop. Poor fool me hey Andrew.

James thanks for raising this here. I have had discussions with Touch on this on behalf of newsagents and will write more tomorrow. I am advised the fee you receive is not set by touch.
