Is Network Services loading you with Naplan books tomorrow?

I’ve heard from a newsagent who is being loaded with Naplan books from Hinkler via Network Services tomorrow. These are books the newsagent can source direct for substantially more margin.

This is an example of an action by Network no covered in the code of conduct which is part of the trial set to be authorised by the ACCC. It is an action which disadvantages us. It is an action applied to us and not our competitors. It i an action which ought to shame Network and Hinkler.

I’ll be early returning all my stock.

1 box – 24 assorted. 40% margin sale or return I’m happy to accept a box risk free.. I think ill easily sell these with the upcoming naplan testing but will guage over next few weeks and tops return as required.

If you have stop of Naplan books already and with a better margin this scale out does not make sense.

What suppliers Mark? Hinkler has exclusivity over School Zone Naplan workbook products? I’d love more margin but I know of no others that stock it.

& $2.70 to ship the box back. NDC makes money on delivering and it costs me money to return it. This could be the business lesson taught in Uni’s in a few years when explaining the decline of the Newsagency.

Jeff, I get my Naplan books through Bookpower or Major Books and they RRP for $7.95 and I get 40% margin on that. If you sold them for $9.95 like the ones from Network you would get more of a margin.

You make a good point Jess. We can often achieve a higher than RRP price.

I believe it is wrong to sell an item higher than the RRP. Gouging the consumer but just my opinion. There is nothing wrong with the Hinkler Naplan books in my view. I would have appreciated the consideration to set my own supply but the rest is fine for me. I like the range margin amd sor terms. Different strokes for different folks.

The problem I have with a RRP is it is set by someone else and not us as retail businesses. Toys, CD’s Books etc. for example can have a RRP of down to 40% or less GP.
This may be ok for the manufacturer to push out lots of product into many different types of outlets, but if the RRP is adhered to the attainable profits are severely diminished (note the amount of book and toy shops around today). If the RRP was set at a 50% GP it would be easier for everyone to stay in business.
