Good days for newspapers

The win by the Asian Cup Socceroos last night, the Queensland election result and the situation of Tony Abbott’s leadership status are all good newspaper stories. Each presents us with opportunities to drive impulse purchases – opportunities to not be shopkeepers waiting for people to come to you but to be retailers pitching papers to customers.

Reading the fine print on the instruction for the Disney storybook promo I noticed the redeem paragraph states “Present a token to participating newsagents, and Coles and Woolworths stores”. This is a Qld document so not sure for other states.
Mark has editorialised on numerous occasions that both papers and mags appear to have an agenda that does not go down the newsagency path. This adds further weight to his concerns.
Time to bow out of the newspaper scene.

Gary, I explained to News a while back that including supermarkets is not a good move for the health of the channel.

In SA Coles are involved with this one. Funny how Newscorp will do this then say we have no respect for their product, yet they try to take sales off us at every opportunity.

I had 2 customers who had bought last Sunday’s paper at the local Woolworths and were given the free ‘Frozen’ book a week early and wanted to order the complete collection from our store. News ought to realize if they want the promotion done properly they should concentrate on supporting Newsagents..
