Sabra Lane from the ABC posted this cool tweet about her visit to a newsagency in Bermagui.
I love the photo of the cat on the counter as it personalises the newsagency business. You wouldn’t see this in a competitor outlet.

In our first business we had two cats that had the run of the shopping centre (a small strip centre). One made a habit of leaping onto the counter and scaring the bejesus out of customers. The other slept in the front window and startled a couple of customer who thought he was a figurine when he moved. Lots of fun.

Love it, that’s what customers like about their local newsagency, it’s comfotable and welcoming like someone’s home.
Our local cafe/general store/newsagent (in a tiny village) always has the cat sleeping on a chair out the front in summer, or on a lounge inside the window in winter.
Chooks and roosters roam safely outside and local dogs are greeted by name.
Locals lucky and visitors impressed!

I am half expecting someone to comment that Tatts rules prohibit cats on top of the lotto counter…

Thank you Sabra for shopping and posting Slim Dusty’s picture, he is an interesting feature in our shop and also a source of amusement 🙂

I don’t know about sabra lane’s support of news agencies but the abc news this morning presented a story about the imminent introduction of lotto into woolies and Coles. The presenter’s comments were enough to scare off any potential buyers of news agencies.

Just to remind you of our differences.
I am scared witless of cats and would run
a mile if I saw one in my shop or on my
counter.
To me it would be like having a leopard or a tiger sitting on the bench.
Just letting you know we are not all animal lovers. – I don’t mind some dogs but leave all other pets to someone else.

Andrew I thought the ABC discussion was reasonable. People’s opinions are their opinions. Newsagents have played a role in bringing them about.

My post simply inferred that a potential buyer of a newsagency may be less inclined to travel that path if they saw the multinationals biting into another layer of a newsagency business. Simple logic.

Andrew a newsagency turning a good profit being offered on a reasonable multiple is what conservative buyers are looking for.

Pets are cute and a conversation starter in many situations.
Allergy to cats, is this not an issue here ?
Many people suffer from this allergy and I’m not sure I’d want to be the cause of a possible reaction amongst my customers.
