Talking with a newsagent yesterday they said they don’t put up Valentine’s Day until after Australia Day. We’ve had it up for a week.
I know of supermarkets that have had it up since the start of the new year. Supermarkets would do this because it works.
We have it on the lease line to attract shoppers who like to embrace seasons early. It’s working, product is moving. I think a four week on-sale is the minimum required for a season like Valentine’s Day if you want to position yourself as a specialist card retailer.
When it arrives it’s put up as soon as we can manage to. The earlier we display seasons the better our sales end up being.

Valentines definately should be up by now the next question is when should we put up Easter? The hallmark Easter cards arrived the same day as Valentines cards 2 weeks ago and theres hot cross buns in the majors but it seams to early to me.

If I had room I’d have Easter out now as it’s a season for buying cards to send to people a distance away.

I have to admit before I owned a newsagent I never even realised people sent Easter cards, but they obviously do because they sell. I’m ignoring it at least till Straya Days done and dusted.

Yep , one car merchandiser was in just after New Years , took the Christmas down and put the Valentines day cards stright up for us. I’ve seen quite a few go already which surprised me but I think it’s great in what is a traditionally quiet month for us.
