I haven’t spoken to weekend staff about penalty rates. However, I do have uni students working for me during the week and they are always looking for more hours. I would be happy to give them hours on Sunday and I’m sure they’d take them at a weekday rate.
The staff currently working on the weekend, I would think, would not like a pay reduction. Like most things there will be complaints at change then it quietens down with time when the greater good is realized.
The bottom line is more people would be employed for more hours and small business owners would have the option to work less hours.

We have a couple of Mums that work for us, and if they could work on the weekend they would. Their wages are just to high and I use them sparingly. The benefit for them is that the would not have to pay for / beg for child care on the weekend. In SA 20 years olds get the Adult wage after 6 months – What Union Guy thought that was a good idea – one that does not run a small business!
