What a waste Bauer distributing this Ripley’s book

bookerThe anger from the newsagent reporting receiving this Ripley’s book from Bauer’s network Services this week was palpable. The RRP $29.95 title had no place in the scale out from a magazine distributor.

Newsagents can get books like this elsewhere at 50% and more GP and with more control over supply. Any book supplier using a magazine distributor to access newsagents should think twice.

This title was early returned – what a waste of time and money!

We received a full carton of 8 books. Left them in the carton as it makes it easier when returning next Tuesday.

Putin has more chance of saying sorry and paying compensation re the Ukraine airplane murders than subagents in this demographic have of selling a single copy of this book.

Weighs a bloody ton as well, I hope the Newsagents in FNQ don’t cop too many cartons.

Unbelievable; It wouldn’t surprise me to see this wasted effort saga listed on page xx of the book itself. – Believe it or not.

Sold 4 copies already. 45% margin sale or return ill
hold till end of the month and see what transpires then return the rest. No physical returns required i read. Understand this may not work for everyone though.

If they are to supply products like this it should only be on an opt-in basis.

Dennis, mine have come through as tops.

The worst part of this stock was they actually came packaged in a Hinkler box. I deal with Hinkler and receive a much better margin through them……why would I want them through Bauer?
We also had this stock last year and failed to sell them then.

Shauns Thanks for your post about the simpsons comic. I did not notice the price and put it out for the upcoming {hopefully} tourist season. They now sit on top of my ever increasing early returns pile .$18.95 get real !!

Got Best Aust Stories at $29.95 as well as the ripley book. Cashflow interruptus again.
The delayed billing problem is accumulating as well. It is getting to the stage where we have to return the DB mags because of room constrictions both in the shop and in the office.
I wonder where all this will end?

The $18.95 price on the Simpson digests makes me wince as well but I keep putting it out because I do sell the odd one. While the phantom @ $3.50 is my biggest selling comic in pure numbers, I have to sell 6 Phantoms for every 1 Simpsons to make the same gross profit. Also I have 4 pockets carrying the latest 4 issues of The Phantom and 2 issues of Simpsons-the digest and the normal $8.95 comic-taking up 1 pocket. At the end of the day no one really blames me for the price of magazines and I’m not the one choosing to pay the rip off price.

Steve, I might be able to save you 2 pockets of Phantom`s. I used to do the same as you and have the latest 4 issues. I then had a look at sales and arrival dates and found that most of my Phantom sales of each issue were in the 1st week. Phantom readers are a die hard breed and in my store normally came looking for it in at least that 1st week of onsale.
As a result I only carry the latest 2 issues now.

    Cheers

I probably should cut the number of issues of the Phantom I display, though I do sometimes sell all 4 issues I’m carrying at once to customers who are irregular buyers. I have to admit you’ve got me thinking I should just stack them all into a couple of pockets and make some space.

Not a bad idea Steve….they will look for them. After all they would be seeking the ghost who walks….

    Straight back from us.
If a customer asks for a copy I’ll just pop into Big W and grab a copy for $20 and sell it for $29.99.
