Please excuse this off-topic rant. I parked at Melbourne Airport for 24 hours and five minutes and was charged for two days. Yes, that’s what the published fee schedule says and yes I knew it. That does’t make it fair.
Their long term car park was full. It took ten minutes to find a park in the short term so technically I was parked and using the facility for less than twenty four hours.
A fairer fee structure would be to charge by the hour for all part days. But, hey, Melbourne Airport is not run on fairness.
Gouging is the term you are looking for, and its a disgrace.

I can’t remember the exact figures but I believe the Airport Authority receive well over 60% of their income from parking.
There are times when it must be used, but if possible we will avoid parking there and use off-site commercial parking in preference.
Is everyone aware of how they herd ppl into parking areas now with constant patrols around the outer areas of the airport ? You can no longer find a quiet corner somewhere while waiting to collect an incoming passenger.

Gift fair, $40 for less than 4 hours. Parking fees are obscene every where. To top it off, I visited my brother in hospital this week and pad $10.00 for under two hours which I was fine with until I got to the boom gate and it was locked open giving every one “free” egress AFTER we had paid. I was not amused. Motor bike is the way to go instead of copping these fees.
