The Australian Financial Review goes begging

qcfinAt 1pm at the Qantas Club in Sydney today  they had plenty of copies of The Australian Financial Review left to give away. Most papers are often gone by early afternoon so not sure whether there’s been a supply increase or reduced interest in the title.

Maybe another outlet contacted the distributor and asked politely that their own allocation be cut, and the publisher being the good, professional business that it is said
“Sure, happy to do that for you rather than load you with stock you don’t want and can’t sell. Anything else we can do to help your agency improve it’s profitability ?”
“No thanks, not at the moment but I’ll be sure to contact you again if feel the need”

They then promptly dumped the excess stock on some other poor buggers shelf.

    Nah…..wouldn’t happen would it. 😉

Given that these lounges are generally used by VIPs, those on first/business class tickets and high-status frequent flyers (i.e those who fly a lot with QANTAS or pay a lot when they do fly) it might be that QANTAS would rather have more newspapers than they need than risk running out and having someone complain that they dont have their paper for the long airplane flight ahead.

Jonathan, you’re probably thinking of the Chairman’s Lounge for the elite. No, this lounge was packed with everyday people, many with economy tickets like me.

Years ago all the papers would be gone and today they were except for this one. I suspect they are being supplied more.
