Another crazy magazine day for newsagents

It’s ironic to me that a couple of weeks after PMP announces in its FY13 results a decline in Gotch distributed magazine volume of 10.9% that newsagents experience newsagents are hit with what feels like a considerable volume increase in magazine supply.

The most insidious increases are those by one or two copies where we’ve not sold out of recent issues. There is no justification for such increases.

Magazine oversupply— Caravan World, we have received approx 16/18 each month and usually have 2/3 returns.. Guess how many we got yesterday… 34 yes 34. What a joke.

A joke I agree but not a funny one. Garden Guru on Monday we used to be sent 6/7 (returned 3/4 regularly) so I requested our allocation be reduced to 4 and sure enough we received 20. At the same time can not get back orders for partworks customers have on order where GG cut us back to 1’s and 2’s when we were not returning any. I really do not understand at all.

Network was worse for me on Thursday. At least 8 new titles I’ve never had before or that were stopped years ago reappeared. Titles that we normally sell 2 or 3 of have suddenly grown in supply to 8 or 9 copies.

The ANF should be doing something about this long ongoing issue that affects nearly every newsagent rather than buying into and pushing Hubbed and other similar schemes.

Readers Digest is a joke. I sell 2 in a good month, so they send me over 20.
