I was surprised to see this suburban newsagency with prime window space covered with magazine posters yesterday. This is so old school. It blocks a view of what’s in-store, what could entice shoppers in. It’s also odd to me that they are promoting these magazines so late in the week, when 80% or 90% of sales would have been done by now.
It’s basic stuff like this that we need to change. Magazine posters on the front window of a newsagency placed like this have no place in today’s newsagency, not if the business wants to live beyond the weekly magazine cycle.
I’d be interested to hear what others think about this.
We still have the Couriermail, SundayMail and Australian decal on our window. As a retail only newsagent, that is going very shortly and will advertise my own product with better margin.

I still promote in a window but only 1 title and I block it so there is still a view in.I also have the title I am displaying in a slim line bin right near the door.No use putting posters and then the customer not being able to find the product.
Also I choose what I promote no one tells me what title should go there.

I would never cover our window with posters as we display giftware in window and this brings customers inside.
We have a large poster display next to window, this looks great because of the size, only put visually appealing posters there and it definately does drive sales. I never poster weekly mags as I believe they are a regular purchase and there are too many other magazines I want to sell.
It’s disappointing when we get a magazine that we know will sell well but no posters to display.

Mary that’s what I am getting at. Your approach is smart and done with thought. What I saw was not.

We have 4 frames on the window that we put posters in ,three other windows have nothing . Our windows are hardly see though because of the tint of glass that the land lords put in due to the sun in the arvo . People walking past often stop and look at the posters and then come in and buy the magazine
