In a move demonstrating independence and a lack of collusion, magazine distributor Gordon and Gotch has this afternoon announced it will move to a two day a week magazine delivery – Monday and Thursday.
Effective, just like the change announced earlier today by Network Services, from July 15, newsagents have some changes to deal with. Newsagency software should handle the announced day of week change without issue.
“lack of collusion” ha ha ha ha ha

I believe this will actually be bad for me as Thursday looks after itself with Powerball and every second Thursday is PS pay day
I will save money on needing less staff but that actually helps no one.
I would have perfered Mon and Wed.
We will need to rely less on Newspapers and Mag for our customer base.

does this mean all weekly Wed magazines are now released 1 day late, or are they available elsewhere on time? Agree that Mon,Wed would’ve been preferable, Thurs is busy enough without Magazines.

I’m glad they colluded, the alternative of deliveries 4 days per week would be an inefficient proposition. Re-arrange staffing will provide the opportunity to save a couple of hours a week and should provide other benefits such as an extra day a week to concentrate on other more profitable parts of the business. I’m looking forward to it, after all I’m pretty sure that when we first purchased this business almost ten years ago we only had 2 delivery days and it worked well.

While its obvious Toll,Network and Gotch must have been in negotiation over this the real question is are the ANF that irrelevant they don’t even get a seat at the table?
That said I don’t have a big problem with the change as long as the deliveries for the 2 days are evenly spread and not too much is piled on to Thursday. Did have a nice chuckle over the the bit in Networks email about volumes reducing over recent years. I think someone from distribution should walk down to marketing and explain that just because sales are falling doesn’t mean they have any intention of adjusting Supply.

Correct Steve, the ANF are irrelevant.

Now we are over resourced Wed and under resourced Thurs. So the girl who is not working Wed works less as she’s already required Thursday. Therefore she leaves because of lack of hours.
Retail 101 – get your store ready to trade by C.O.B. Wed and focus on the customer on your busiest selling days Thurs – Sat.
Any title other than the best sellers may not make the shelf until Thurs night if Powerball is busy.
Why not two days Mon and Wed?

This new arrangement will be to ensure that Coles/Woolies (and their extensive
SS network) have their stock B4 the weekend so that they have the four best
trading days (Thu, Fri, Sat and Sunday)with all of their stock ready for sale.
I have a son who is a manager of officeworks and I know that they DICTATE
the terms of WHEN they will receive goods.
I would bet on it (maybe Tom Waterhouse will cover me).
I don’t care really but the staff will be put
out when they see the changes we have to make – cest la vie!!!

I would like to know early on what day they plan to send out Thats life and Take 5. It will take people quite a while to get used these changes. Also hope they are sent on the same day.

June I have a blog post going up tomorrow that talks about the risks in this move for newsagents compared to supermarkets.
