How’s the Valentine’s Day season for you?

Valentine's Day at a US Hallmark.

I am hearing mixed reports from newsagents about Valentine’s Day this year. Those with lower than expected numbers say it’s because it’s in the middle of the week. I disagree – the day of the week should not affect sales except in rare circumstances.

From what I see, newsagencies which went out early, (4 weeks ago) with a broadly appealing Valentine’s Day display tend to be doing better.

In my own stores we have tried to create an offer that appeals across the age groups. This is what I saw in the US recently. Over there, they chase customers to purchase multiple Valentine’s Day cards.

How’s Valentine’s Day doing for you?

Card sales are kicking along now and I suggested on facebook that some customers (hopefully the unmarried ones) may want more than one card.

After a stronger than usual January, we have found things have slowed down in February generally. I cant quite put my finger on it but I have a theory that people go into lock down mode when an election is called. Im a bit worried that the extended campaign period means people will be keeping things close to their chest for most of this year. What do you think.

We also have had a good January, but finding February has slowed.
    Cards are strong.
Valentine’s gifts are way behind and I can not see them equaling last year.
With BTS we have only gave our display for Valentines Day 2 weeks as a rule we like 4 for most of our seasonal.

It’s just moving here over the last couple of days, first the girls, now the guys. As with most years tomorrow will be crazy (hopefully) and the last few will go Friday morning.

BrettS pretty much described what is happening here too. Cards are ok, pressies less than usual, but still time for it to improve.

Card sales up on last year I would be surprised if we have any V day cards left by lunch tomorrow. There is a line to get around the cards right now.
