There is a newsagent in Sydney who had defrauded two suppliers to the tune of $40,000 in the last two weeks, $20,000 of that this week. While I will not go into details here, if you are a newsagent supplier and you want details, call me on 0418 321 338. I’ll gladly give you a store name.
British American Tobacco advised us today to be aware of someone posing as BAT sales rep going into newsagencies and other small businesses to collect branded cigarettes “for credit”.

Interesting. My story is not this though. It’s a newsagent stealing from suppliers.

Just thought I share this, out of topic, but also important for newsagents to be aware of.
Note that BAT recently sent out courier bags containing return kits for their retailers, and as far as I know, their reps do not go into stores to collect cigarettes. Identity cards are easy to fake. And beware of “couriers” collecting returns too.

I have heard of a lot of scams over the years, probably enough to write 2 books on……the mind boggles at this scenario though….

In this case it is at least a couple of people representing themselves as owning a newsagency business and conning several suppliers.
