Should we set our own prices for interstate newspapers?

With the price of The Courier Mail increasing ten cents in Melbourne soon I am wondering if retailers of interstate should set their own price reflecting the real costs of carrying the stock item. After all, it’s how a deregulated market should operate.

What could they do? Take your birthday off you?

I have been for about fifteen years now – very small quantities, but I refuse to make a loss on my own behalf.

We arrive our interstate and overseas papers, and print the barcode on a label with our price on it. Usually adding about a dollar for dailys and weeklys.

Have done for years , never had problem. These papers are sold to regular customers who come back week after week.

Every interstate paper we have ever sold over the last 13 years has had “our” price applied to it, not that specified by the publisher or delivery agent. It has never been an issue for us.
