Cool wraparound for Daily Telegraph

The translucent wraparound for The Daily Telegraph yesterday was pretty cool.  It was a clever way to promote the Vivid festival which has just started in Sydney.  While the main story was covered, you could see it there and you didn’t have to peel anything off to get to it.

I see this as quite different to the post-it type ads as it connects the paper with a community event.

Mark, News said this was happening and they had done tests with newsagents and see no problems? Well our driver spent an extra 15 minutes rolling the Tele something I pay for. It did not create 1 extra sale. Might be great for Metro agents but not country, then we have to remover the cover to top the papers for returns.

yes I’d heard that from a couple of others too Gregg. Certainly makes you wonder where and how they tested it.

A few wrapping issues, but worse was that production and delivery to Newsagents one full hour late in Sydney on Friday morning, apparently because of problems with the fancy cover. Interestingly, a similar cover on the broadsheet SMH earlier in the week caused no wrapping issues because being a broadsheet, part of the slippery cover is folded inside the paper bundle. However, on a tabloid, it is just an outer casing and slips easily when being handled or rolled. Personally, I hope they don’t do it again.

LOL I really had to convince one older man that it WAS the Telly ! He looked along the papers them came over to ask did we have the Telly, so I said, Oh yes, its’ pink today! right there in the usual spot. He went back over to the paper stand, stared at it, looked back at me and said, No I want the Telly. I don’t think he wanted to pick up something PINK !!! still smiling about it !!

i found the top corner curled over after a few minutes on the top copy, they were slipery, it did confuse customers, it was harder to roll….
the one on the SMH the week before was very confusing advertising for mastercard.

Today on the cover of the Sunday Times we got the double whammy… a post it offering a cheap subscription to the Sunday Times and the Australian, and a banner ad across the top advertising their on-line content. Its bloody annoying, disrespectful and just rude!!
At least if its inside the newspaper its not on display and therefore advertised in my shop!
Sorry, late night, early morning… call me Grumpy Smurf today 🙂
