Do you know your competitor in stationery?

I was talking with a newsagent last week about stationery and in the conversation asked about their competitors. They said they had none as they were in a country town and were the only business selling stationery. I suggested they look at the Staples website.

While it is very early days for the Staples brand in Australia, they are already making their presence felt. They are the most serious competitor in the stationery space for newsagents because they are usually ignored by newsagents. Newsagents would ignore them at their own peril.

Best organised and easy to use stationary website I’ve seen. Raises the bar quite a bit.

Just typed my postcode in and they don’t deliver to my area but it froze my computer when I tried to exit.

I’ve used staples a number of times to order stationery supplies for my business. Great service and competitive prices every time I’ve used them. I think they are going to be a serious competitor and give more than Newsagencies a run for their money.

Just plugged in mah dial-up mow-dem and saw this hyere story and figured this Staples mob reckon only youse folks in the south-east corner of this here great nation of ours use stationery. Reckon they won’t be much com-pee-tishon to us country yokels in the north and west of the country. Think I might have tuh check muh prices though coz I reckon we’s are cheaper’n them on most things. Guess youse guys in the south-east must have more money than we do in thuh outback areas of Brisbane and Perth so these mult-eye-nashunals figga they kin git more outta ya. S’pose they have ta make their millions of quids profit somehows.

Beautifully written Geoff……I did some price comparisons early days but they do seem to be a little cheaper now and scale of economy may mean they get cheaper. Bricks and mortar still has its advantages though and it is up to us to maximise then.
