Poor packaging damages free gift

Poor packaging at the distribution warehouse has damaged some of the free snack bars delivered with the current issue of Weight Watcher’s magazine.

The photo from another newsagent shows a crushed bar. This came about by Weight Watcher’s being placed at the bottom of a package with two other titles on top. It should have been placed at the top with the bars protected in some way.

In my case, the product came to us knocked about and some bars loose form the magazine.

Publishers invest in gifts which can be easily devalued by poor action in the distribution centre, as has happened with some of the stock of the current issue of Weight Watcher’s.

The condition of my stock (from both companies) has been deplorable of late.
I have a big supply of overseas airfreight
mags and I invariably have to put the first
and last copies straight into returns.
They are packed with no aforethought to
the extra cost that is being charged and it
    galls me so much.

To add insult to injury I got 2 x copies of
zoo magazine perfectly packed between two pieces of cardboard to protect them.
There is no rhyme or reason for this except that the packers are not being trained correctly.
IPS product arrives in my store (SA) in pristine condition. It is always packed with surrounding paper top and bottom aned strapped perfectly.
GG and Network are obviously not looking
at this very important part of the distribution system. They need to ensure
that someone trains the people who do the wrapping/packing.
They also need to get rid of the narrow strapping and always use the wider one because the narrow one slides off the parcels and the product all falls out.
While I am whingeing – when the addon product covers the logo of the magazine
my staff spend ages having to push the product down into the plastic so that the
logo (unique cars e.g.) shows to the consumer.
If the publishers could only see how their product reaches us they would have a fit.
You cannot sell a $32 magazine to a customer if it is torn and early return is our only option.

The latest 4WD Action mag has 2 Videos and 2 FREE magazines. I have had to send half my allocation to the early return bin. They dont fit on the shelf because they are too fat. They dont lie flat because they are to unstable. I dont have space to allow 1 mag per shelf space and i dont have storage. So take the top off and send it back. When will they learn that you cant just make em bigger and fatter. And we seem top be selling less as they get fatter and you cant see what is in em because of the wrapper. We used to sell a few but no space any more. Sorry publisher but you need to get your act together.
