Newsagents in shopping centres often have no choice but to open every Sunday, either working themselves or paying crazy penalty rates. The government owned Australia Post outlets in the same centres get dispensation from centre rules and are usually closed for the day. This is further evidence of the abuse of government protection for these retail businesses which continue to aggressively chase small business newsagency business.
Our Woolies was closed on Good Friday and has done so for the last few years. I am wondering if this is the case with other Safeways/Woolies stores in other areas? Is this a decision of theirs or is it a union thing? I loved the business I picked up from having them closed on the day.

No wonder nothing Rapid happens fast in Australian except the introduction of the Carbon Tax – To my point!
Still have not received a reply from Bill Shorten in regards to this issue and apparent demarcations within the Newsagency Small Business community.
How can he defend this? If he opens his mouth again he will be putting his other foot in it

Angelo, pretty sure everyone is closed on Good Friday and most (?) of the Coles and Woollies were closed Easter Sunday. Certainly all near me were.
Mark, you may find Aus Post (particularly the corporate stores) opening longer in the furure. I seem to recall something in one of the Aus Post Journals where the CEO has mentioned looking at longer more customer friendly hours. Could take on any form though. Thats aside, of course, from the 24 hour self serve post outlets being rolled out.
