Here in suburban Melbourne we have not had the floods of some parts of the country. The steady rain we have had has been a boon to shopping centre traffic. yesterday, for sample, sales jumped 25% on the back of a packed shopping mall. Most departments benefited from the traffic increase. It was a retailers delight!
Was it that wet you turned the place into a shipping centre. Sounds like fun or a good theme?

Rain = customers ++ over last couple of days, grateful I was ready, starts March off very well. We are in an elevated country town, lots of tradies etc can’t work in this weather.
Had a lovely moment in store this morning when a customer got a text message and burst into tears. Turns out she was in town cleaning our her Mum’s house for the weekend, her Mum had died last Xmas. Message was from her brother warning her about roads closed due to rain. He also had a photo of her farm, all under water. She was upset – “where are my sheep, where are all our sheep” she kept saying. Another customer went to the map stand and spread out a district map and between us all we worked out a route for her to get back home. I hope we sent her on her way feeling confident – the sun was out this afternoon.
I’m sorry, but no News Ltd columnist or
giant supermarket conglomerate can substitute for community service, which is what we pretty much do these days. I’ve got a smile on my face after today.
