Newsagents who receive unsolicited emails can complain to ACMA about such SPAM. Under the Spam Act 2003,
it is illegal to send, or cause to be sent, unsolicited commercial electronic messages. The Act covers email, instant messaging, SMS and MMS (text and image-based mobile phone messaging) of a commercial nature.
Lodging a complaint about SPAM email is the best way to complain about your business email address being obtained and used for unsolicited emails. Click here to go to the ACMA page for lodging a complaint.
The other thing I’d suggest newsagents do is emailing the spammer and letting them know that you are complaining to ACMA.
Thankfully, we don’t get these, except for the Viagra or penis enlargement spam emails in our personal email accounts, that is..
The bane of our work, however, is all those telco cold calls on the phone. Dashed annoying. Hang up, after wishing them a nice day, mostly or, if I feel like playing, I’ll engage and hammer them with privacy questions, which leave them flummoxed 😀

Y&G, turn the tables on them and tell them that they must have computer printers in thier office and you can supply them really cheap. I’ve done this when I had a few minutes to waste their time as well as mine. I have no hesitation in just hanging up on them when busy as they usually do the same if you politely decline their approaches. They are a damned pest and I no longer play the game with them.

The most effective is you ask them to hold whilst you get the manager. You leave them on hold for a long period of time. If they are calling long distance, which often they are, somehow your number gets taken off the ring back. Try it – its worked for us at home and at work….. It also ties up their phone so they can’t dial out (whilst you are looking for that evasive Manager!)

Yep, that one works a treat.

Getting back to Mark’s original post, thanks for the ACMA site address Mark. I have saved the site and email address so I can refer spam to them as it arises.
