Take a look at this excellent use of magazine posters. It creates a visual energy which is better than the usual flat placement of posters around a shop.
Rolling and standing posters like this presents a strong message about magazine range, that this business is a magazine specialist with a diverse offering.
Shoppers entering this newsagency could not miss the magazine display. I bet it leads to a nice kick in sales.
Well done to the team at newsXpress Eli Waters in Queensland for creating this.
Ok so I will seen as negative again but to me this looks really messy. No way would I do this in my shop.
Maybe if the posters matched the title below it may look less cluttered but this is in no way visually appealing.

Mary this display is not about promoting specific titles but rather, range. I think it works a treat.
This could be one of those displays you need to see in person to get the real impact.

The posters are above the magazines anyway so why not give it a better blocked look that would stand out even more.

Mary you could do that if you want to do what most others would do. Sometimes the unexpected or the unconventional draws more attention.

I think it is a good idea.
1) It does show customers a few things about the business, One is I now want to buy 1 or 2 magazines.
2) As business owners we pay rent for the entire area and if you can tastefully promote or use upper areas in the shop it has to pay off.

Mary, we did take notice of the poster being out of alignment with the specific mags and have straightened them up accordingly since this photo was taken. Mark is right about it being a little more striking in person. All we were trying to do was to take more advantage of the pos material provided to us. We think it looks good and have had plenty of comments from not just customers but from other company representatives. Thanks for blooging this Mark.

Quite striking, we rarely use all of the available posters due to a lack of display options. This display enables the use of all material to good effect. We’ll be copying this display for sure. well done Allan.

Allan it is a great idea and perfect for the space. My opinion was just that my opinion.
I just thought it would look so much bolder and do such a better job if the posters were blocked with the mags. You must of as well since you did move them around.
Could you send a picture to Mark of the posters above the magazines so we can all see the difference?

Mary, i think Mark was trying to highlight the fact that we can think outside the square (no pun intended). This is just one way we are playing with our merchandise packs sent to us from the Mag suppliers. Whilst we have straightened up our display we have also had some success with this type of poster display for just one title. I could send Mark a dozen photos but the idea is the same. It may not be everybodys taste but if just one person thinks it is good for thier store then i think we have achieved something as a group (Newsagents that is). The beauty of this blog is that Mark presents ideas that whilst may not be everybodys cup of tea at least the ideas are presented. I personally have seen ideas here that i have thought are both great and some that i didnt…..but at least they were here for all to see and share.

I thought it was a great idea Allan and definately something I wouldn’t have thought of. Will look to give it a try in the coming weeks.
That’s the thing that I really appreciate in this blog. People are willing to share ideas even with those of us that aren’t in a particular marketing group (or any marketing group in my case !).
