The Age yesterday had a report indicating that the Borders / Angus and Robertson situation is worsening with more layoffs announced by the company. I was in a Borders store late yesterday and it’s magazine and book departments were looking depleted … presenting opportunities for nearby newsagents. Sure it is profiting from someone’s misery … it’s also business.
IMO its highly doubtful any company will buy the remnants of the Australian business. Far too many company stores have shut down to really make it viable for purchase, especially with the amount of debt they’d have to take on and with the NZ part of the company sold off already. I give it a month before we see the whole group liquidated by the administrators…
