We continue to make the most of every Royal Wedding opportunity presented to us. Today this New Idea Royal Wedding Special Souvenir Magazine is receiving prime positioning in several locations in-store.
I am not seeing any sign of interest in the Royal Wedding waning yet. We even had a customer in one of my newsagencies yesterday asking if we would sell them one of the posters for this New Idea special – we had a locally printed copy on display yesterday announcing today’s on-sale inviting pre-orders.
Today we have more stock of Monday’s New Idea thanks to a reprinting decision. We also have the AWW Royal Wedding special and more stock of AWW itself. So we are well setup for the weekend. I know that not all newsagents are this fortunate so I am not crowing too much.
What a terrific fillip this wedding is proving to be for us!
wd will and kate photo album no show for us today . any other qld agents have the same problem ?

we are supposed to get our first supply of AWW on monday . i can see there being a drama there seens as every one seems to be saying there is no stock or they have been short suppied what chance do we have if we need more stock next week .
what a great effort NDC .
called them up about the album ,even though they invoiced it out today they say we are getting it monday , not looking forward to monday as there seems to be a hell of a lot of stockj turning up with a whole week of mags turning up on the one day

Here in SA we have not even seen a copy of the AWW yet.
I am livid that the eastern seaboard is already getting extras when we haven’t even sighted it yet. Monday is our on-sale date. Sold out of NI & WD on Monday and got extras of NI TODAY (Friday) when new one is due in two days. This industry is incompetent. The quantities in the supermarket next to us is confirmation that we are no longer the preferred outlet for the publishers.
The background of people like Eugene Varricchio at Network is a supermarket background and the understanding of newsagency and how it operates has been abysmal to say the least.
At 25% I am looking to give more and more of my store over to gifts/stationery/books/dvd’s which all have a greater return than mags/papers.
Mark is right. We have to reinvent ourselves because our own industry people are destroying our credibility all by themselves. When the customers tell us they have purchased their mags in Coles because we didn’t have any – you know we are all in trouble.
Doing our best is difficult when our own industry brings us down in the eyes of the consumer who isn’t the slightest bit interested in our woes – they just want satisfaction. ARE YOU LISTENING GG & NDC?

Just arrived at the shop – how funny is it that the WD Special has a cover that virtually clones the NI cover from earlier this week!! The Editor and team at NI must be delighted!!

I went and checked out the local supermarket. I sold out of New Idea on Monday. The supermarket still has half their original stock.
I have sold out of the New Idea special that arrived today. The supermarket still has 100 % of their stock left.

Mark, how did you get more stock when i was told there was no more stock available australia wide? This is classic Gotch and Network not giving a rats ass about country newsagents

Murray I assume you mean more stock of New Idea. If so … they reprinted in Victoria and this limited where they could get stock to. They did their best given limited time.

I’m with shaun, very annoyed that we can’t get AWW or the photo albumn till Monday. Its just slack on Network’s behalf. Doesn’t help when the mag is featured on morning TV as “out now” and we have no stock!!

Mark,
i totally disagree they had limited time. They have known for weeks if not months when the royal wedding was going to happen. Common sense tells you to have a mass increase in supply. I find it strange that supermarkets can have a good supply but when it comes to newsagents they dont give a shit.

Just wondering, does anyone know where to get any souvenirs/memorabilia from the wedding besides magazines? (Cups, mugs, plaques, etc)

Murray, my limited time comment was in the context of a reprint decision on Wednesday with an on sale of Friday.
Remember, Australia’s relatively limited large volume printing presses for magazines have been stretched for a couple of weeks now on this project.

Checked out the local supermarket again last night.
They will have a 50% return rate on New Idea. I sold out Monday .
Pacific mags and GG can’t be too concerned about the number of copies sold.
