If anyone is buying a newsagency they need to make sure they take the existing employees on as new employees and not be left with any carryover obligations of this type.
It is very easy to be caught out. We received excellent advice from VANA in our case. If you follow their guidelines it is very hard to get it wrong.
Equally, profitablity of home delivery operations is seriously challenged when you stick to the award.
Newspaper publishers need to promptly review delivery fees as a consequence of both Fair Work Australia and rising fuel prices.

I called Fair Work to do an audit of my business when I heard about another newsagent in Sydney underpaying six of their staff by $5 an hour. They will find a way around that I reckon.
Turned out I was overpaying by a dollar an hour.
