Our sales of the Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book, the reprint of the cookbook from 25 years ago, are excellent. Our team moved the display so that it is in front of our new party department, next to children’s cards. The photo shows what shoppers see as they enter the store next to our greeting card wall. This display is working a treat. based on customer feedback, I’d expect sales of this cookbook to continue for some time. The nostalgia appeal is high and this is driving good word of mouth – we see it!
Kudos to the people in ACP who decided to reprint a 25 year old cookbook.
If you have the title and are not doing anything special with it, I’d encourage you to have a crack – create a display and shine some light on this classing cookbook. I’d expect it to sell in any newsagency situation. Only Newsagents and Big W have the title at the moment. The rest don’t get it until June. I’m certainly making the most of the opportunity in my newsagencies.
There are people and groups in the newsagency channel who say that magazines are a waste of money and space. While I would agree for some titles, there are other titles off of which we can make excellent money and drive traffic. This Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book is one such title, as was the Slow Cooker cookbook last year.
I still had stock on the shelf from my original supply, when I got another 6 just for the hell of it.
It would have been good if they had looked at the edi data they get sent every day and saw it has not moved, instead of loading me up for no reason except to grab my cash for the month.
It is a 25yr old book after all, nothing new just a new cover. We complain when publisher rebag old mags into plastic bags and call it a NEW issue but this seems to be ok?

Luke it’s working a treat for us. This is a new print run or 25 year old artwork. While I agree you should not have been sent more stock, I love that ACP has reprinted this title.

Maybe ACP should have sent you the extra stock instead of forcing me to cover the cost of returning it.
As I stated before they have the edi data that shows the mag is not selling here but chose to ingore it and instead sent out a 300% increase in supply, which I have to full return at my own cost if I want to see my money again.

Same here Mark. We have a relatively younger demographic and customer base than most newsagencies and have managed to sell over 20 copies in about 5 days. Will be moving the display to an even more prominent position come Monday.
Luke, I agree they shuld have looked at sales data. If they were worried newsagents wouldn’t give the title a prominent off-location position they should have communicated the additional supply and gave newsagents the opportunity to adjust it if they wanted more or less.

We are having a good run too. Since the 18/2/11 we have sold 24.
I ordered 30 extra that were delivered on Wednesday and we are giving it a real push at the front of the shop this weekend.
Its one of those opportunities to to tap into so many customers I have spoken to rememeber the book from when they were kids and are now buying it again.
