XchangeIT yesterday emailed newsagents who will be charged a higher fee from March 31, 2011 for accessing the service because they are not sending magazine sales data. This morning I published a 9 point action plan for XchangeIT compliance here.
Concerned newsagents should book for one of the free live and online magazine management workshops run by Tower Systems – any newsagent can book and participate. Click here for details of the session next Tuesday – an XchangeIT expert will step you compliance and how to avoid the higher cost from March 31. This training program has been undertaken by more newsagents than any other training ever in the history of the newsagency channel.
Meeting XchangeIT standards is important for newsagents and the magazine distributors. It is something we should all work together on. Hence the opening of the popular Tower training program to all newsagents and at no cost.
It is unfortunate that some software companies charge newsagents extra for XchangeIT access and support and that they block access to invoices from XchangeIT if their software support fee is not paid.
Having been a POS user since becoming a newsagent, I thought the extra XChangeIT fee with the annual licencing fee, as well as the direct XChangeIT access fee was normal.

Not normal at all Wendy. Tower Systems has never charged extra for XchangeIT support. The Point of Sale companies were paid by XchangeIT to develop links to their software so we felt it was unfair to also charge newsagents. My understanding is that POS Solutions and Computerlink charge the extra XchangeIT access / support fee.

can confirm that POS solutions charge that fee.

I have been paying POS Solutions for this for years. Now I ask myself why?

That’s a good question David. I have seen an invoice documenting a $198.00 (Inc. GST) charge from POS Solutions – for one year. In this instance, it was on top of a $2,970.00 (Inc. GST) compulsory registration licence. The same newsagent will pay less around $1,500.00 a year (Inc. GST) to Tower Systems for support and nothing to Tower Systems for XchangeIT access. The Tower annual fee is optional.

The xchangeit fee I pay to pos is not charged by xchangeit? I thought it was charged by by them to pos.

XchangeIT Pty Ltd does not charge the point of sale companies anything. Any fee by POS Solutions is a fee they have decided to impose on their customers.

Now all we need is a set of KPI’s the distributors need to meet in using the data to benefit newsagents and eliminated the gross oversupply. If they don’t xchangeit should be free.

I am surprised that not all newsagents are paying this $200 a year I pay to POS Soutions for xchangeit access. Maybe I misunderstood but I thought I was told that everyone paid this and the xchangeit fees. Maybe pos could comment about this.

why the hell can I early return ALL of my G&G titles but have to put up with an overflowing drawer full of NDC because I have to wait until the following week to use the weekly return method

yeah but only up untill there cutoff date and who knows when that may be , all depends on how there months is going i suppose other wise they would let us know now when the cut off date is for the following month same as how NDD did it with a calendar showing when there idea of the end of month is

Therese,
you can place next week’s due returns (for NDC), as a supplementary return. If these are being rejected by the automated NDC returns processess, then you are effectively one week behind. Do two returns in the one week to catch up.
Hope this helps.

I have an invoice with compulsory xchangeit access from POS Solutions. Hmm, thinking.

Thanks for clarifying that, Mark. We haven’t paid this year’s yet, but if we don’t, we won’t get the licence key to get into our system. Change is on the cards.

Wendy without wanting to sound pushy, POS Solutions users can switch to Tower for $6,495 which includes software, on site training, data conversion, a year of software support, a year of software updates, access to weekly online training, access to user meetings, access to 200+ advice sheets. With 200+ having already switched it is a well trodden road.
PS. Support is optional and there is no premium charge for XchangeIT support.

Mark, I have read about Tower’s offer, and we certainly have it at the top of our minds for when we are in a financial position to change. And thank you for letting us POS users know about the ‘extra’ XChangeIT fees.
