even if they open online bookstore here , they can’t compete with overseas online stores , because australia is just a village in the world map.

    @ Eric.

UK post is going broke and is very heavily subsidised by the govt thats why. Theyve been bucking for fairly hefty price increases on their postage products for several years but the previous UK govts have blocked this due to its unpopularity with the public.
I have a mate, who’s in a very senior position with the Isle of Mann Post Office and he was stunned that post offices here are a viable money making operation as the ones over there (and the UK) are so far into the red it isn’t funny. Royal Mail is one of the cheapest in the world at the moment but it will change over the coming 18 months if the current govt there gets its way apparently.

The spin merchants are smiling, the deflection of blame onto online stores is very convinent and has been swallowed whole by all and sundry.

The lack of real investigation by reporters is obvious to those who have anything to do with the group. Red Groups problems have been evident for years, some of this comes from online price pressure and import restrictions to be fair. However by far their biggest concern has been incompetent senior management.

The failure to maintain, monitor and react to basic business indicators has been a source of frustration for most asscociated with Red Group.

For me the press have been lazy, havent asked the right question and have let Dave Fenlon and his English supermarket management team completely off the hook.

Hopefully everyone in Retail learns something from this.
