Yesterday saw even more newsagents at the Home & Giving fair at Homebush and the Gift Fair at Darling Harbour in Sydney. This is terrific. It feels like newsagent attendance numbers are significantly up on last year. I will be interested to see if there is an impact on the traditional newsagency trade shows later in the year.
Hi Mark,
We noticed this years that whilst the variety of offerings was greater, there was maked increase in price… This will put a lot of potential product outside of our customers price points.
I am thinking that at future fairs I may attempt to pool with a number of like minded Newsagents (not in my immediate catchment area) to see what better deals we can source for greater volume purchases.
Cheers

Peter, We were concerned about price point but we also wanted to grow our giftware section so we gradually started buying more expensive items and they moved. So maybe do what we did and start with a small group of higher priced items and build it from there.

Hi Ian,
We have done the same, however what we have observed over the past 2 years is that we carry a lot of cheap stuff (retail under $20) and a lot for over $50… However the real gap we have is in the $20 to $50 price band.
We have found good quality items that would suit our customers and fall within that band lacking over the past couple of years.
Perhaps, we are not considering the ‘right’ things, however with an elderly community it makes it difficult.
Cheers
Peter
