ACP Magazines has made accessing digital magazines easier with the launch yesterday of an iPad app for its magshop subscription service. The Australian has a report on this move.
ACP could not ignore the growing digital channel so I understand their move. Hopefully newsagents take note and realise that the world is changing.
It’s galling seeing media outlets calling this a digital newsstand – it only has a fraction of the range available form a newsstand like your average Australian newsagency.
What interests me about Newsagents now is that we have been competing with the Internet wave early on and have survived. Moreon that later, What i think is happening now is other businesses are being hit by the Internet eg Myer Harvey Norman, Pubs, (gambling) even Restaurants spunking deals and are finding the adjustments hard to take. Newsagents should give themselves a deserved beach holiday, cause what you find is that we are the most computer literate shop in the street, we have adapted we sell telco, gambling, western union, fax copy print all our suppliers are online we even competed with Aust post for a while on bill pay our daily sales are consistent and growing, young people are buying our mags, drinks, stationary the same as the boomers. So If News thinks they can make more money going digital with mags thats fine with me because I think our product is better presented packaged, accessible and best of all local.
