The Herald Sun is reporting today that the new Victorian State Government is set to scrap the Myki ticketing system. Myki is a dog of a system. The previous government allowed it to provide 7-Eleven with an advantage over newsagents by agreeing to integration with their in-house systems. This was promised for newsagents, after my lobbying, and then dropped. So much for the Government back then supporting small business. If scrapping Myki pulls this back then it’s a good thing.
Small business being hit again and again, no price rise for metcards last year because the Govt were afraid with intro of Myki and again no increase next year until maybe March. All this time our cost have risen, metcard sales have dropped because of Myki use and/or non-use, we just sit here and suffer the result. Thanks again to our Govt, this and the last.
I don’t know why any one would stock metcards at the volume required in the past for the pittance they pay. MYKI as a concept is fine but should have been implemented from a current system such as the one in Perth or the one in Hong Kong (both of which I understand were Australian designed). Instead politicanslet thier egos rule and insist on blowing our money on their “better” system. Even though we are registered to become a top up location, I think it should be dumped and somewher in the future maybe a proved system implemented.

just for fun, last week I ordered some Myki Cards, sick of waiting for the Govt to let us sell them. Guess what, about half and hour ago they turned up, not sure if I am game to try and activate yet. Will probably get upt the courage tomorrow. Guess one part of TTA don’t know what the other part are doing.
Well here is the update, sold three Myki Cards, took TTA 3 weeks to realise I had them, took them back and told me I couldn’t sell them until first week in April. I asked if it was because we were waiting for 7Eleven to get organised, they denied this. Now find out 7Eleven are selling them in this area, but not me???????
Second day of selling Myki only and guess what, the device goes down. Lucky I had a few Metcards left. Now over 2 hours since I called for help.
