The front page of The Age newspaper on Thursday brought shame on the publisher – Fairfax. Covering half the story reporting on the tragic loss of life in New Zealand was an ad announcing Here’s a Good News story. The folks at Fairfax have no one to blame but themselves. I hope that the editorial team uses this to fight harder against the advertising and finance teams within Fairfax to illustrate the damage their focus on money covering up news is doing to the brand.
Note: I have been on the road for the last two days and did not post this sooner as I did not have the image. I took this photo from a copy at a Virgin Blue lounge.
Our Fairfax rep just happened to call in on that day.
Being interstate, she was appalled, too, when we showed her. She noticed straight away, while I was still boo-hooing over the photo itself.
I took the ad off out of respect.
and a nice red sticker usefully covering the newspaper’s name as well?
The Age is doing all it can to alienate its readers both in the printed edition (like this inappropriate advertising) and online (e.g. auto-playing videos either news stories or advertising). Clearly they’ve lost interest in connecting to their readership anymore as long as there is a few $$$ to gain from it.
Appalling. The publisher should have stepped in.
