Did someone flick a switch?

Is it just me or has retail traffic picked up dramatically over the last two weeks?  This is certainly my experience across five stores in different demographic situations.  Traffic and sales are up, especially in everyday cards.

While we have some good traffic generators: Halloween, calendars and boxed Christmas cards, the growth I am seeing is in everyday lines.

I’m not complaining, no way.  I am am curious though whether anyone else is experiencing the same surge.

    Yep,

Here too. We had a few slower weeks than normal and suddenly everything has picked up. We couldn’t find any explanation for the surge.

But everyday card sales are a secondary sale from these major draw cards drawing consumers in… Think about it – the challenge is to get them in, they will they buy what ever reminder is triggered when they are instore – i.e. Christmas may draw them in, but by looking at the card section may remeber it’s someones bday or see a mag they want. Ofcourse foot traffic is up.

Michelle, My experience is that shoppers shopping for everyday items is us, nothing to do with seasons.
