Lighting lets newsagents down

I was walking around Brisbane at dusk today and the brightest looking shops I saw were the 7-Eleven convenience stores. The newsagencies I saw looked dark in comparison.  It’s not just Brisbane where you see this, the difference is obvious across the country in capital city and many high-street situations.

Newsagents who complain about the business nearby convenience stores are taking from them should compare their lighting (and the rest of their street-front offer) with that of their competitors.

A bit off topic,But was talking to Network today and was shocked to hear they are not going to be distributing soon anymore overseas titles,They will be distributing AUSSIE titiles only,So Gordon and Gotch are taking all of networks o/seas titles off them as network said they are glad to cease these as they are not viable to distribute. So I think In months to come GG will be o/sea’s and aussie titles, and NET will be aussie titles only,And poor NDD will cease, which is sad seeing this company works with you best out of the 3 distributors.

Gordon & Gotch are the best in my book. I rate NDD as the worst and will be happy to see them move on.

Lighting-Stick to the subject Mark would say -if I answered it that is- joking of course.
Lighting using a light metre newsagents need a minimum measure of 800 Lux measured 650 mm from floor level
Woolworths use 1000 lux as there standard.
We are in the reading business and anything less we should buy a restuarant.

We changed all of ours to triphosphorus lighting and it made a huge difference to brightness but it also brings out the colour more from all the magazine covers.

and the new colourless insipid uninspiring external tatts logos certainly doesnt help strip and or srteet newsagencies…why change a colourful, eyecatching window decal and facia logo for such a bland one..seems like a change just for change sake which wasnt thought out too well

Australian Standards require 400 to 800 lux for retail purposes. I advise 600 plus lux, measured at 700mm above floor.
Remember to wear a dark shirt and stand away from the light meter when taking readings. 5000K triphosphor lamps are best – they bring out colours without making cutomers feel like they are in a Lab. Using flouros with electronic ballasts will save approx 20% on power.
