Did you get more magazines today?

Is it just me or did others receive considerably more magazines today than usual for a Wednesday.  Based on sheer volume (across the two bggest suppliers), our supply was up 50%.  This threw out space and labour requirements.  The only was we could accomodate the unexpectedly high volume is to return some existing titles early.

YES , did you get the email with the list from ndd that are changing over to GG . Should we be afraid that NDD will close up shop soon and we will loose all our returns ?? just a thought

Yes, and noticed anything that is worth over $10 goes back not this week but next week and the week after.

Why to I need it in my back room for that long?

Why don’t you just early return them. We always check our magazines about the 23rd of the month to see what we can early return. This way we get the credit on the next account. Mag suppliers do the reverse to us by sending out biggest quantity of mags on the last couple of days each month.
    Remember its all a game.

As I noted Greg, returns for NDD are done for the month. To return these we’d have to make another delivery and add to our costs.

We early return based on sales and space demands as a regular part of the business. We don’t go over the top unless space demands, like today, cause us to.

On the last week of the month, newsagents receive, on average, 32% of all magazines for the month, in terms of value, in the last week.

Am I wrong but if you return NDD by edi you can only early return once a month. Last month they invoiced prior to the end of the month and only let their supplementary return out AFTER they had invoiced. onsequently no return credit for March.

wally i return more than once a month with ndd , and with ndd there month does not always go to the end of the actual month so mags you get sometimes in the last week do not get charged that month anyway

    Miriam,

First up, review what you have on the shelves, look for stock from February or earlier. Start there. If you still have a space problem, look at March and look specifically at slow moving stock. make this your second cull.

There are certainly other steps you can take to fix the problem more completely – I’ll email you privately about that.

    Miriam,

The only titles affected by the changeover are the titles which changed distributor.

Marie Claire is from Pacific. Their tract record on supply compared to sales history is very good. If it were my I would display the title with marketing collateral in a high traffic place.

This is one example where you can make lemonade from what looks at first glance like a box of lemons.

B, we received last week’s That’s Life (replacement) this week, along with the proper allocation. Who knows where the original parcel ended up.
This year, we’ve had some serious transporter (delivery) issues, none of which have been addressed as far as we can see. The distributors are very well aware of the ineptitude/complacency of the delivery people, but I guess they’d be quite powerless to take any meaningful action, short of moving depots, such is the arrangement in place at present.

    We’re missing another title today.

Just one whole week, where no titles go walkabout. Just one. Pleeeeease?

As for NDD losing all these titles, I look forward to maybe seeing some of the good ones back on our racks 😀

Thanks Y&G I suspect we will get the same, the That’s life replacements didn’t arrive today either. We’ve had terrible trouble with deliveries lately. Recieving mags for other surrounding newsagencies is becoming a regular occurance. Luckily the good will seems to be spreading around and we have a good little call-drop off-pick up system happening!!

    Ditto, re musical mags.
But say this quietly – we don’t want distributors thinking we’re ok with this LOL

I am frustrated at the netonline process where you try to reduce your suppply and it wont let you saying ‘cant cancel stock without previous sales data’. I have had some of these mags for months and dont want them and cancel them. VERY FRUSTRATING. You ring customer service and they will only process 5 titles at a time and they still arrive! Where are our associations and Federations???
